oxygen tank in May 2019. Gill made
this attempt on the north side of the
Tibet route because there was a human
traffic jam on the easier side.

At 7600m up Everest in the death zone
Mr Lee was coughing constantly, his lips
turned blue then his body switched off for
3 hours. His sherpas dragged him to his tent.
He had an infection in his lungs so the sherpas got
him hot water bottles and put him in a sleeping bag
then gave him oxygen. Later he was put in a sleeping
mat to slide down the mountain. When they got to 6400m
the Chinese rope fixers helped them till the snow
ran out. It took 6 hours to get to base camp.
A helicopter was waiting to take him to Kathmandu
hospital. If the sherpas were not there Gill would have died.

Wow Jake. We all heard about the human traffic jam, but I didn’t know about this story. The title for your story is very appropriate.
ReplyDeleteGill was lucky to have the sherpas there to rescue him. It would be interesting to learn more about sherpas.
